A suede ball rarely fails at the seam. It fails on the surface: the nap balls up where fingers grip, fibre migrates onto hands and jerseys, and the ball reads as worn while the carcass is sound.

The cause is a nap that sits on the base rather than in it. A flocked surface has nothing holding the fibre down, so rubbing lifts it into pills. Our microsuede is needle-punched microfiber and the nap is the base itself, sanded back to a short dense pile. There is no separate layer to detach.

It matters most in dark shades. Navy hides scuffs but shows every pale pill against the grain. A dense pile stays dark and even; a loose one turns grey in the middle of the panel.

Nap that cannot shed. The pile is sanded into the needle-punched base, so there is no flocked layer to lift off. Fibre stays on the ball, not on the player's hands.

Pilling tested, not assumed. Pilling and shedding are run per order on the shade you approve. Suede that pills after ten sessions looks the same on a swatch and different on court, so the test is the only honest answer.

Matte under floodlights. A dense short pile absorbs light instead of reflecting it. The ball keeps its colour on camera and does not glare under floodlights.

Applications: volleyball and futsal match balls, handball, school and club training balls, and indoor court balls.

• Base forming, sanding, dyeing and inspection run as one line under one lot number. Nap height and density are checked across the width, thickness is gauged at three points, and shade is read against the approved swatch under D65.

1. Will the nap pill where players grip the ball? Tested per order, not assumed from the swatch. Pilling depends on whether the fibre is anchored in the base; here the pile is sanded into the needle-punched felt itself.

2. Does deep navy transfer onto hands or pale jerseys when wet? Wet crock, run on the ordered shade. Dark suede is the harder case, so ask for the result before you approve rather than after the first container.

3. Does a suede cover soak up water and gain weight? Suede takes surface water faster than a coated grain, which is why this article suits indoor and dry-court play. For outdoor use, say so at sample stage and we quote a water-repellent finish on the same base.

4. Can our club logo be printed or embossed on it? Yes. The nap takes screen printing, transfer print and hot-foil, and density is adjusted so the graphic does not sink into the pile. Embossing needs a shallow die.

5. Which thickness for futsal and for volleyball? 1.2 mm for volleyball: small panel, thin cover over the bladder. 1.4 mm for futsal, which takes harder contact with the floor.
