What kinds of skins are there for car seats

Feb 07, 2023

Car seats have the following skins:

1. Artificial leather: artificial leather is the main force of vehicle leather. PVC artificial leather made of PVC resin, PU leather made of PU resin, PU resin and synthetic leather made of non-woven fabric are used as raw materials. Most of the artificial leather seats on the market are made of PU polyurethane. The biggest advantage is low cost and durability. Some are even worse than leather in performance and practicality.

2. Polyurethane: polyurethane is a kind of high-grade synthetic leather, which is called superfine fiber reinforced leather, and is a polyurethane composition. It is very close to the leather in the hand. It is resistant to low temperature, abrasion, pulling and cracking. More importantly, it will not cause any pollution from production to use, and has excellent environmental protection performance, so it is widely used in medium and high-end cars.

3. Leather: Generally speaking, leather is durable, not easy to rot and not easy to damage. There are many kinds of dermis, and different animal skins have different processing techniques. There are also many levels of quality, grade and price. The first or second layer of cowhide is the most commonly used on cars.

4. Artico leather: It is a kind of artificial leather. It is used on low-end Benz models, but its touch is close to leather, and its texture is soft and comfortable.

5. Napa leather goods: it is not a brand, nor a cattle breed, but a representative of the technological level. Without polishing and embossing, only slight finishing is used to ensure the most original breathability and touch of leather. The surface is mostly grain soft, usually made of cow leather, which is smooth and soft, and is most common in luxury brand models. Napa varieties are usually divided into grain, soft and litchi grain cowhide. It is common in luxury cars such as Benz and BMW.

6. Dakota leather: Compared with Napa leather, the material is harder and the friction is stronger, which can increase certain anti-skid effect. For brands and models that need to emphasize sportiness, many BMW models will use Dakota leather.

7. Merino leather: the texture is more exquisite than Napa with the piping treatment. It is mainly used for flagship models such as BMW 7 series (check transaction price | participation | preferential policies).

8. Alcantara: It is a composite material composed of polyester and polyurethane. It has strong durability, anti-skid and anti-pollution and fire resistance, and is often used in sports cars or performance cars. Many people call it Alcantara suede, but this is just a wrong name, because Alcantara has a frosted surface and a touch like suede. What I want to express is that it refers to suede rather than suede, not Alcantara. In addition, there are many fake Alcantara materials on the market, but they retain the effect of suede on the appearance.

9. Aniline leather: It is mainly used in top luxury cars, which is divided into semi-aniline leather and full-aniline leather. Semi-aniline leather is mostly used for Range Rover (check transaction price | participation | preferential policy), Lexus LS (check transaction price | participation | preferential policy), and Maybach S (check transaction price | participation | preferential policy). All-aniline leather is common in Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Ordinary people can see little difference, but luxury leather brings huge price difference.
