What kinds of leather are there in car seats?

Dec 14, 2022

There are several kinds of leather for car seats:

1, artificial leather: artificial leather is the main force of vehicle leather, PVC artificial leather with PVC resin as raw material, PU leather produced with PU resin as raw material, synthetic leather produced with PU resin and non-woven fabric as raw material, now most of the artificial leather seats on the market are PU polyurethane components, the biggest advantage is low cost and durability, some of them are not worse than leather in performance and practicability.

2. Ultra-fine leather: Super-fiber leather is a relatively advanced artificial leather, which is called ultra-fine fiber reinforced leather. It is a synthesis of polyurethane, which is very close to the dermis in the feel, and is resistant to low temperature, wear and pulling, and is not easy to crack. More importantly, there is no pollution from production to use, and the environmental protection performance is superior, so it is widely used in medium and high-grade vehicles.

3. Dermis: generally speaking, dermis is durable, not perishable and not easy to be damaged. there are many kinds of dermis, different animal leather materials, and different treatment techniques, and the quality, grade and price are also divided into many grades. The most commonly used on the car is the first layer of cowhide or the second layer of cowhide.

4. Artico leather: it is a kind of artificial leather, which is used in the low-configuration model of Mercedes-Benz, but it is close to real leather, soft and comfortable.

5. Nappa leather: it is not a brand or bull breed, but rather represents a level of craftsmanship. Without polishing and embossing, only a slight finish is used to ensure the original air permeability and touch of the leather. The surface is mostly grain soft lattice, usually made of cowhide, smooth and soft, most common in luxury brand models. Nappa varieties are usually divided into grain flour skin, soft flour skin and litchi grain cowhide and so on. Common in Mercedes-Benz, BMW and other luxury cars.

6. Dakota dermis: compared with Nappa dermis, the material is harder and the friction force is stronger, which can increase the anti-skid effect. It is often used in brands and models that need to emphasize sports. Many models of BMW will use Dakota leather.

7. Merrino leather: using edge rolling treatment, the texture is more delicate than Nappa, and it is mostly used in flagship models such as BMW 7-Series.

8. Alcantara: it is a kind of composite material composed of polyester and polyurethane, which has strong durability, anti-skid, anti-fouling and fire resistance, and is often used in sports cars or performance cars. Many people will call it Alcantara suede, but this is just a wrong name, because the surface of Alcantara material is frosted and feels like suede. What I want to express is to use suede instead of suede, not that Alcantara is suede. And the market also has a lot of fake Alcantara material, but in the appearance to maintain the effect of suede.

9, aniline leather: mostly used in top luxury cars, divided into semi-aniline leather and all-aniline leather. Semi-aniline skin is mostly used in range Rover, Lexus LS, Maybach S-class.
