Types of Automotive Leather
With the improvement of people's quality of life, for the convenience of travel, some families with surplus money will choose to buy a car. However, many car buyers don’t know much about car leather, and they are inevitably hesitant to choose. They want to buy a higher grade, but they don’t know what kind of leather is used in the car. What kind of leather is good in quality and high in quantity? Grade?
The average consumer thinks that the leather is of high quality and good, but they don't know the doorway in the automobile sales market. In fact, there are three main leather materials used in automobiles, but there are many types of automotive interiors, such as car seats, foot pads, etc., and only a part of the very high-end leather materials can be regarded as genuine leather. Here is a brief introduction to the information on automobile leather materials.
1.Artificial leather
Most cars under 200,000 use artificial leather. There are three types of artificial leather: PVC artificial leather, PU leather, and PU synthetic leather. The artificial leather seats on the market are basically made of PU polyurethane. Its characteristic is low cost. Durable, the quality of some artificial leather is not worse than real leather.
2. Microfiber leather
The full name of microfiber leather is microfiber reinforced leather, which is a relatively advanced synthetic leather and polyurethane composite. It feels very close to real leather, is resistant to low temperature, abrasion, and pulling, and it is not easy to crack. There are many applications in mid-to-high-end vehicles. The most important thing is that there is no pollution from production to use of microfiber leather, and it has excellent environmental performance.
Many people say that suede is a type of microfiber leather, and the price of a good microfiber leather far exceeds the price of ordinary leather.
3. leather
Now let’s talk about real leather. Now leather is a general term for natural leather, which means that the skin is peeled off from animals and then made into leather after a series of treatments. Leather is generally more durable, not easy to rot and damage. There are also many types of leather, because different animal leathers have very different processing techniques, and their grades, quality, and prices are different. The leather most used in our cars is the first layer of cowhide or the second layer of cowhide. A set of all-leather seats costs tens of thousands of dollars in leather. So basically the real leather only appears in luxury cars. Oh on it.
Even some mid-to-high-end cars, so-called leather seats, cannot give you a 100% full set of leather. Either use leather slag and leather fiber to grind, high-pressure dipping the produced leather, or use real leather in places where it is often touched, and artificial leather in other places.
Some car owners will be more aware of the types of leather, such as full aniline leather, semi-aniline leather and Nappa leather. Nappa leather is often regarded as a symbol of high-end leather. Nappa is not the name of leather, but a tanning process that softens leather. This kind of leather is more breathable and has a more delicate feel, but compared to artificial leather, it is not so wear-resistant.

Tips for distinguishing genuine leather and artificial leather
The easiest way is to look at the appearance, feel and taste. Normally, the color of good leather is bright and soft, soft and tough, without a pungent smell.
Although the surface of poor-quality leather is smooth, it feels hard. Inferior-quality artificial leather not only feels rough, but also has a plastic smell.
In addition, the leather will have a smell after rubbing, but the microfiber leather will not have this smell.
